What is Paid User Testing?
Companies and designers want real feedback from real people to make sure they’re building things people actually want to use. And that’s where you come in!
As a paid tester, you’ll try out apps, websites, or even physical products, sharing your honest feedback on what works and what doesn’t. It’s usually as simple as clicking around, answering some questions, and recording your thoughts. And in return? You get paid—often by the session or task completed. Rates can vary, but it’s a flexible, fun way to earn cash for simply sharing your opinion!
Is Paid User Testing worth it?
As with many side gigs, Paid User Testing jobs can vary significantly in pay rates.
We've completed using testing jobs paying as much as £80/hour for completing very basic tasks, but we have also spent multiple hours and faced difficulties completing jobs for £20. We recommend reading our reviews of paid user testing websites and registering for multiple platforms so you can pick the jobs that you're most interested in. While user testing can be a full time career, we have personally found that it works best for us by picking the highest paying jobs and completing them ocassionally.
The high potential earnings means that side hustlers who are looking to maximise their earnings should definitely consider adding user testing to their portfolio of side gigs.
While our members cannot discuss the details of the user testing due to confidentiality, our Community Forum is a great place to discuss the best paid user testing websites or the ones you should avoid.
Tips
We've completed a wide variety of paid user testing at Verified Hustles, from websites to games consoles.
- Register with multiple user testing platforms. The highest paying user testing jobs can be few and far between. While it is possible to find a large amount of user testing work, we complete an average of one or two jobs per week. For this reason, we suggest registering for multiple user testing websites so you can find the best jobs.
- Apply for jobs where you meet the criteria, and apply quickly. Many user testing jobs require a brief (unpaid) application and are looking for users with specific demographics (for example, owning a games console). To save time, only apply for jobs where you are sure that you are a good match. Also, complete the applications accurately and thoroughly but don't spend too long on them. You'll apply for many jobs that you'll never hear back from, so don't spend hours perfecting your application (unless the pay is VERY high).
- Be selective on the jobs you take. As with all side jobs, read the descriptions in full before applying. Some jobs require a large amount of writing that can quickly make the job not worthwhile.
- Find the best paid user testing websites with our Hustle Finder. This is the number one most important tip, as some providers are far better than others.
- Read our Paid User Testing Guides. We've tried and tested a variety of paid user testing websites, with reviews and guides for each. Think we're missing one? E-mail us at info@verifiedhustles.com and we'll consider assessing it.
